During
the afternoon, Communications alerted Stations 1,
6, 3 and Truck 5 to the Extended Stay America on
Northern Pike for a reported apartment on fire.
C-42 (Asst Chief Feyes) in the area arrived on scene
and reported smoke coming from a 2nd story apartment.
Truck 5 arrived shortly after and once inside, determined
there had been a kitchen fire that was extinguished
prior to arrival by the sprinkler system causing
a large water condition. With only Engine 61 and
Truck 5 on the call, command requested additional
units to the scene bringing several more engines
to the scene. With C-62 (Deputy Chief Shuga) assuming
interior command, crews confirmed no fire extension
had occurred began ventilation tasks and salvage
operations.
