Commercial Building Fire

Crews from Companies 1, 4, 6, and Truck 5 were alerted for a reported kitchen fire at the Darbar Indian Restaurant on Monroeville Blvd just before noon. Quint 1 arrived shortly after dispatch and advised they had light smoke showing from the roof. Engine 62 arrived and established a hydrant connection to supply Quint 1 if needed. Crews went to the roof to find a small fire in the hood and duct system and used water cans to extinguish a small fire and finding no further extension.

Residential Structure Fire

January 22, 2007

At 13:32 communications alerted Companies 5, 6, 4 and Command 32 for a report of smoke in a residence in the 4400 block of McKenzie Drive in Company 5's area. C-30 (Chief Hyzy) arrived on scene right after dispatch advising heavy smoke, possible basement fire with all occupants out. Crews from 5 and 4 advanced lines inside the garage to the basement and side 3 where they met heavy fire load. Engine 61 arrived and split their crew establishing a water supply and along with Rescue 6's crew, laddered the roof and cut a vent hole. While crews were attacking the fire, command added Rescue 1 for air. Due to the heavy fire load, advancement of the fire, and partial floor collapse, command decided to evacuate the structure and proceeded to a defensive operation. With aggressive exterior operations, crews pushed the fire back and regained entry where crews preformed extensive overhaul operations and extinguished the remaining fire. Crews remained on scene taking care of hot spots and assisting investigators for many hours.
